Fluffy Hugh Needs You!

Friendly, fluffy Hugh is counting down the minutes until he can run and play again-- but for now, this cutie will have to settle for chasing rabbits in his sleep until he's up and running again!
Hugh on the road to recovery-- he'll be as good as new in a few weeks!

This sweet guy is a Great Pyrenees mix.  He weighs about 70 pounds and our best age-guessers estimate he's about 4-5 years old.  When he came to us from the shelter, he was a little wobbly and was having trouble walking.  Turns out, he needed a procedure called a tibial plateau leveling osteotomy-- a surgical procedure which will make his knee much more stable once it's healed.

The good news: the vet says his prognosis is good to excellent!  The not-so-good news: Hugh has racked up about $2,000 in vet bills!

Show Hugh he deserves to walk with dignity again!  Help cover his medical costs by donating to Dogs XL Rescue.   PLEASE DONATE TODAY!

Adorable, adoptable Hugh is looking for love and a forever home!

He's very sweet and friendly-- and this playful fellow is so anxious to recover in a loving, forever home!

Hit By a Car, Oreo Rushed to ER!

stabilized awaiting xrays
Our team of volunteers got the news that we dread today...   One of our loved dogs escaped from their foster's home and was hit by a car!

Oreo, our massive mutt/ black lab beauty, was rushed to the ER.  Oreo was in pain and panic was in the air.  Within a short period of time they were able to stabilize her and evaluate her.     After a series of tests, IV's, and xrays, the vets determined she has a fractured pelvis.   Oreo is staying over night to be monitored and observed for internal injuries.

We are all on edge and as we get more information we will keep everyone updated as we get more information!

But for right now, we are waiting more information on whether the fracture is something that will self heal or one that will require surgeries and crossing our paws that Oreo's pelvis saved her internal organs from damage!
pain meds and IV's

We have already acquired over $1200 in vet bills and expect more to head our way.

Oreo deserves our help.

Please help Dogs XL Rescue!   Your donation will allow us to help Oreo!   Any amount, no matter the size will help!

Let's Fix Macon NOW!

Dogs XL was approached by one of their shelter partners when this sweet, beautiful boy came in to their extremely high-kill shelter.   Macon was not using his back leg and was in obvious pain!

After an evaluation by the vet, it was determined that Macon was fighting the pain and deformity of a prolonged dislocated hip.    It was VERY obvious was that he has been enduring an unfathomable about of pain that until now, no one was addressing.
The GREAT NEWS is that we can fix Macon's pain with your help!

With an intensive surgery, the vets are reporting that an excellent recovery is possible.   Macon will need  recovery time and some pooch rehab, but will be able to play and have fun again.    This surgery will cost about $1000 (thank goodness for the vet discount!).

Macon is a gorgeous, Lab/Golden Mix as you can see and is only about 2 years old.  Way too young to not be able to run and play!   His wonderful personality catches everyones attention and he deserves to have his health, be painfree and a family to love him and provide him a forever home.

Please help Dogs XL Rescue help Macon.
With your financial support we can get Macon's surgery
scheduled TODAY!

No More Limping Oscar!

Oscar, AKA Mr Home Depot, was found scared and hungry wondering a local Home Depot. When he was rescued by a good Samaritan, he had a limp. We thought it was a hurt paw, did some x-rays and made sure he had anti-inflammatories and pain medication for what was diagnosed as a soft tissue strain. Well.... no improvement!

Today, he went back to the vet for more diagnostics and we have gotten to the bottom of it.

He has a painful shoulder bone cyst/spur and a tear in the cartilage.

We have been told this is a common issue in larger dogs and that surgery can repair the injury and help him return to 100%. The surgery is necessary to fix this problem and to prevent his current and future pain... as well as prevent inevitable arthritis.

The total estimate was $1700 so we are calling on you for help! And boy do we need it! It has been a tough week for Dogs XL and its pooches.

We have dogs in hospice care (Poinsettia), orthopedic surgery pending for two dogs and  orthopedic recovery (Noelle), and Parvo (Carson) all hitting us hard emotionally and financially.  Please help Oscar and Dogs XL Rescue by donating to this surgical cost! We (Dogs XL and Oscar) can not thank you enough!

Badda-BING!

Well, ya know the expression, "BADDA BING, BADDA BOOM"?

Well,  basically, Bing is taking that expression to a whole new level.

To define the expression Badda Bing, Badda Boom it takes a little umph and cuteness in this case.   It means "that's a wrap" or "that's it, its all taken care of".  And apparently,  Bing can do with his eyes closed!

This little puppy is saying no more mean people and fighting ring for me!

"From now on, this is my life...Just lounging in arms and loving life!"

BING! WELCOME!

Please Welcome BING to Dogs XL Rescue!

snuggling in his foster home
off transport into his first hug!

Bing's story is a special one. A fire in the hills of Tennessee brought fire fighters close to an isolated area in the woods. There they discovered over 65 dogs chained to trees, participants in... a suspected dog fighting ring. The had chains bigger than their bodies weighing down their tiny necks. Dogs, mostly pit bull type dogs, were spread across the hill. The conditions were deplorable. The angels at Animal Rescue Corp stepped in and removed all the animals from the chain and opened up a temporary shelter where they could do medical and behavioral assessments. Despite the horror the dogs were all happy to see their rescuers and welcomed these people to their home with love and kisses.

Meeting his foster family!

Dogs XL is doing a very small part to help the bust operations and has brought beautiful Bing to Dogs XL. Bing is 5-6 months old and weighs about 20-25 lbs. He is dog and people friendly. He has an expressive face and when you talk to him everything from his nose, eyes, wrinkles, ears, and little butt wiggle with delight. He loves to play fetch and knows how to play "fort" in the backyard. (You climb up the slide and snuggle with your boys in the high fort, duh!)

Bing is going to enjoy foster care for awhile and will be available for adoption shortly. He is looking for an amazing home with home owners who want to turn him into a role model doggie - maybe even a therapy dog. If you are interested in Bing, please email anne@dogsxlrescue.org.

Poinsettia Has to have a Holiday Miracle!

Poinsettia was recently rescued from a high kill shelter by Dogs XL Rescue.  In this short time, she has become a favorite among our volunteers!

Poinsettia is a sweet and loving lab that is struggle to survive right now.  Her foster is taking wonderful care of her, but she needs surgery NOW.

Poinsettia medical state is URGENT!.

She has been diagnosed with severe laryngeal paralysis.  She is struggling to breath especially when she lays on her side.   Most likely a genetic condition, the paralysis causes the muscles in her neck and throat to not retract properly when she is breathing.

When Poinsettia lays down, the skin on the inside of her throat (the laryngeal flaps) blocks her airway and she "suffocates".

We have had a veterinarian involved consulting with her condition and they feel they can successfully correct this problem with surgery.  This surgery, however, costs $3000 to $4000 depending on complications.

THIS SURGERY NEEDS TO HAPPEN AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!
